Step Four : Apply
Public universities and TVET colleges in South Africa all open for applications at different times. It is your responsibility to always check their websites for their opening dates. Most applications are strictly online on the institution's website. Make sure you have the required documents as soft copies (scanned and in your USB or phone) such as your certified ID, grade 11 results or matric results. Also try applying on a computer instead of the phone, so you can have access to all the features. Note that some universities require application fee, and without proof of payment, you are not going to be considered.
Admission Requirements for University
For a Degree
- A valid GRADE 12 National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission for degree purposes. Minimum APS of (#), excluding Life Orientation. A Bachelor’s degree endorsement (the minimum entry requirements to study towards a degree) does not guarantee admission. Preliminary admission is based on the results obtained in the final Grade 11 examination. Final admission is based on the final Grade 12 results. For ALL Courses.
- MATRICULATION CERTIFICATE (PRIOR 2008) - Students, who successfully completed Grade 12 before 2008, can apply for admission to the University with the normal Grade 12 Senior Certificate with full university exemption by converting their grade symbols to an APS. For ALL courses.
- NATIONAL CERTIFICATE (VOCATIONAL) NCV - Students who have successfully completed a National Certificate Vocational NC(V) Level 4 qualification will be admmitted for CERTAIN courses in CERTAIN university (please check the prospectus).
- NATED (N6) - Students who have successfully completed their N6 can be admmitted for CERTAIN courses.
- Matric Exemption Certificate – Student who applied for matric exemption at the Matriculation Board and got their certificate can be admmitted in for CERTAIN courses.
The Admission Point Score (APS) system.
The system is a simple calculation, using your NSC or Grade 12 university exemption results, which can be done by any prospective student to determine if he/she meets the minimum requirements to gain entry into a specific programme of choice offered by a Faculty within the University. Meeting the minimum APS for a particular programme does not, guarantee admission. Note Life Orientation is not used in the APS calculation.
